Manchester United’s squad is in an absolute mess at this point in time, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having a big task ahead. For me, the biggest area of need is still midfield, with several names linked during the season.
However, the one that pops up most often is James Maddison. The Leicester City attacking midfielder would no doubt fill the creative void within this squad. That said, the Reds aren’t looking likely to secure his signature during this transfer window.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the 23-year-old star is not expecting a Man Utd transfer this month, amid ‘firm interest’ from the Old Trafford club.
Furthermore, Maddison’s representatives would be ‘surprised’ if United even made an attempt to acquire him during the January transfer window.
Big deals like this often take time. Negotiations are long, and drawn out, while Leicester obviously aren’t keen on the idea of losing a top-quality player who they’d struggle to replace in the mid-season transfer window.
That’s why Maddison to Man Utd looks a real toughie this month. It always felt like the fans knew it was too hard to complete and now the media have all-but-confirmed that.
The problem is, this squad is super-thin. How does Ole go about solving the issue in the short-term? Honestly, I don’t know the answer… I do feel as though this is going to be a long January, mind.
