Manchester United have apparently held Jack Grealish talks, as the Englishman remains a priority transfer for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
All actually went pretty quiet in regards to the Englishman. The last story we covered came way back on August 13th and until now, we hadn’t heard a peep.
Anyway, this Grealish update came from the Daily Mail last night. They state that the Reds have held talks with Aston Villa, as they ‘strive to reach an agreement’ to sign the attacking midfielder.
What’s also interesting is that it’s claimed the 24-year-old remains a ‘prime target’ for United, while the 20-time Premier League champions are also ‘monitoring developments’ in regards to Donny van de Beek. Interest in the Dutchman has seemingly picked up pace over the last day or so.
Villa still demand £80m to let Grealish leave, that’s fair enough. However, in this current market, I’d be surprised if United would meet that valuation.
Would Grealish be worth it?
He’s a brilliant player who’d add quality to this squad. I’m just not sure Edward Woodward can justify spending such amount of money on a player who wouldn’t start game-in-game-out.
Grealish’s numbers were great in a pretty average Villa team. However, upon resumption of football in March, he was a bystander for most games. Is that inconsistency really worth £80m? To Villa, he’s their talisman but to United, he’d be another cog in the machine.
My honest opinion is that moves for Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho should take priority.
If Solsjaer is 100% sold on Grealish, though, who are we to doubt him? The Baby Faced Assassin has been excellent in the transfer market thus far – and long may that continue.
