Out of seemingly nowhere, a proposed Manchester United move for Mario Lemina is beginning to pick up pace. The last update we covered came from The Times, who stated that the Reds had been given permission to talk to the man from Gabon.
TalkSPORT have the latest, namely their broadcaster Alex Crook, who states that three Premier League clubs have enquired about Lemina’s availability.
Apparently, United have the early advantage, though, as the 25-year-old prefers a Reds switch over a move to either Arsenal or Leicester City…
Lemina was left off Southampton’s pre-season tour that are currently in Austria, as it definitely feels like the midfielder will be on the move this summer.
At first look, it does feel a little underwhelming, but when you think about Lemina as a potential replacement for either Ander Herrera or Marouane Fellaini, it does make more sense.
This lad is talented and that’s why Juventus signed him a few years ago. Although it didn’t work out with the Serie A giants, the ability is there. Injuries seriously hampered his time at Southampton which is a bit of a concern, but if the Reds could somehow get a deal done for under £20million, surely this is a gamble worth taking?
The key here is to ensure that Lemina isn’t the only midfield signing made in this window. If he’s one of three (preferably the third in terms of skill-level), it’d be an excellent bit of business. At this point, though, that looks unlikely. There is still time left to get a few players signed mind…
