May 23rd, 2011. Manchester United would be named FA Youth Cup champions, beating Sheffield United 6-3 on aggregate. The team that day included Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Ryan Tunnicliffe, Will Keane and a certain Ravel Morrison.
It was the latter who possessed the most talent at that time. Unfortunately, the attacking-midfielder from Wythenshawe had off-field problems that ended his time at Old Trafford prematurely.
Morrison would play for seven different clubs since leaving United (some on loan). Today, though, the now 26-year-old has signed for a fellow Premier League club in a surprise deal.
Ironically, Morrison has signed for Sheffield United – the club whom he scored two goals against in the aforementioned Youth Cup final.
The talent that Morrison possesses is still ridiculous. Aged 26, he’s still young enough to forge himself an excellent career as a professional, but the attitude and mindset has to be right.
You do get the feeling that this will be his last chance at the highest level. For Morrison, it’s now or never. Can he do it? Well, Chris Wilder is the perfect coach for him to work under and learn from, but it all comes down to the effort put in by the former United starlet.
I’m absolutely praying Morrison works wonders in Sheffield, and for 36 games a year, he’ll have my full support.
Good luck, Ravel!
