When I first heard that Wilfried Zaha was ready to leave Crystal Palace this summer, we assumed it’d be a case of if rather than when we’d be covering this story.
It comes from the Daily Telegraph, who say that the 26-year-old, who struggled deeply at United during his time here, is determined to leave Selhurst Park this summer.
Their report claims that Zaha is prepared to re-join United this summer should they bid for him, although Palace are demanding a huge £100million fee to let him leave. Given he’s under contract for the foreseeable future, that’s fair enough, although the article states £70million may be enough to get the deal done.
What I find most interesting is the Telegraph add that United are ‘monitoring the situation’ which leads me to believe that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is considering a move for Zaha at the very least…
First and foremost, I wouldn’t be paying £70million for Zaha. In fact, if I had to put a figure on it the most I’d go up to is £35-40million and even that’s at a push.
He has done pretty well for Palace but he struggled with the pressures that playing for a global club brings last time out. I’d prefer to see him slowly work his way back up the ladder rather than diving right back in at the deep-end.
Arsenal are apparently also keen, although they’re weighing up a move for AFC Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser as he’d be considerably cheaper. If I’m honest, I’d rather see the Scot move to Old Trafford, too. The Zaha ship has sailed and I hope United stay well away from this one.
