Well, one way or another, something was bound to happen in regards to Paul Pogba’s Manchester United future. The mercurial Frenchman has been out of action for the last few months, with rumours continuously swirling about his long-term future.
For Pogba fans, the latest story is a sad one. It comes in an exclusive from The Sun, who writes that the 26-year-old’s Man Utd career is over, with both player and club ‘desperate’ to part ways.
His Red Devils teammates are now ‘convinced’ that there is no way back for Pogba at Old Trafford, while the player remains firm in the belief that United are still two or three years behind both Liverpool and Manchester City.
Right now, Real Madrid remains Pogba’s most likely destination, though with eighteen months on his contract, while United hold the option to extend that for a further year, the ball is still in the court of the 20-time Premier League champions.
It’s a tricky situation for United. Pogba is an immensely talented young man, though the question I have is this; is he really worth all the drama that follows him around? For a 6/10 display most weeks, probably not.
For me, it feels as though his United race is run. I get why he wants to leave but I also fully understand why the club would be prepared to move on from him. He came with a hefty price-tag and Pogba hasn’t come close to living up to that.
No doubt Pogba will move elsewhere and go on to prove to the world just how brilliant he is, but United have to think about themselves and themselves only – they can’t worry about what’ll happen in future.
Right now, it’s about getting a good transfer fee for Pogba and then re-investing that money into the squad. With his injury likely to rule him out for the rest of the month, you’d imagine that summer is when he’ll eventually move away from United.
