Many fans have been calling for Jesse Lingard to leave Man United as they deem him just not good enough. Maybe, those supporters are about to get their wish…
Although the transfer deadline has slammed shut in England, over in Portugal, their window to sign players is still open, albeit closing soon.
However, they’re targeting a late loan move for United’s #14. The story comes from ESPN’s Rob Dawson, who stated that the 27-year-old United first-team star is being targeted by FC Porto. The deal would be a season-long loan ‘if’ it happens…
Check out Rob Dawson’s tweet here:
Lingard has seriously fallen out of favour over the last season or so, being reduced to a squad player at best by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following some pretty poor performances.
Back in August, we covered a claim that stated Lingard was deemed surplus to requirements. Well, it’s super-late, but United could be about to be rid of their man, albeit on a short-term deal.
At this stage in his career, you feel like a move makes sense for all involved. Lingard needs to be playing regularly, while a change of scenery will do him the world of good mentally.
Let’s be honest, it’s going to be tough for him to turn it around at United. Some fans have already completely turned on Lingard and that’s nigh-on impossible to come back from.
Porto is an illustrious club with a rich history, while the Portuguese people are amongst the nicest on the planet. This would give Lingard a new lease of life, with a shot to turn his career around. I seriously hope this move goes through.
Who knows, a year away from Old Trafford could rejuvenate Lingard. In twelve months’ time, he may well be back in favour if he can impress the manager. The clock is ticking, though…
