Alex Telles is hoping to seal his Manchester United transfer as early as this week, as the Reds look to bolster their playing squad.
Luke Shaw has done pretty good over the last twelve months, though question marks about his long-term future remain. A mistake against Crystal Palace at the weekend didn’t help his case, either.
Now, according to The Guardian, it seems as though a United move for Alex Telles is progressing nicely.
Apparently, the 27-year-old is ‘hopeful’ of sealing a United transfer ‘this week’ as negotiations for the player have ‘advanced’.
Telles currently has a release clause of £36.7m (€40m) but due to the fact that he’s entering into the final year of his contract, United are lowering that fee. At this point, they’re looking at paying a maximum of £23m (€25m) to sign the Brazilian.
In terms of weekly wage, Telles’ £75k-a-week contract sounds pretty reasonable, especially for someone who’ll start regularly for the Reds if he fulfils his potential.
Should United make their move?
In our opinion, yes. Telles would represent an improvement on the starting XI – and at a very reasonable price, too.
United interest isn’t in Telles isn’t new. A transfer does seem likely at this stage. While it’d be unfair on Shaw, United need to be competing at the business end of major tournaments sooner rather than later. They cannot wait forever.
It will also mean a positional change for Brandon Williams, too, who’d have to move over to the right-back slot. He’d deputise for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but get given minutes aplenty due to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not being keen on what Diogo Dalot has to offer…
Hopefully, United can push this deal through sooner rather than later. Telles is an excellent player, provided he performs to his capabilities.
