£62m offer made, Man United identify 30-year-old as potential Lukaku replacement: report

The Romelu Lukaku leaving Manchester United rumours continue to rumble on, with the two sides meeting in Singapore in just over 24 hours…

Anyway over the last day, Red Devils fans have been given an update on a possible replacement for the superstar Belgian.

It comes from FCInterNews, who state that United have identified the 30-year-old Arsenal forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as a potential replacement for Lukaku should the ex-Everton man leave.

Furthermore, they state that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already given his approval for the man from Gabon to replace their current #9, while an offer of €69m (£62m) has already been made, although Arsenal manager Unai Emery is trying hard to resist.

FCInterNews state that United’s interest in Aubameyang only strengthens Inter’s chance at landing Lukaku this summer, which obviously makes sense. Although I do question whether the Reds would move for a 30-year-old forward in the prime of his career.

Marcus Rashford is Solskjaer’s first-choice striker, would Aubameyang be happy with being a back-up or rotational option? Plus, United would have to replace the former Borussia Dortmund man in a couple of years anyway…

Personally, I’m not sure if I believe this one. If Rashford is struggling, United do have the likes of Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez and even Mason Greenwood who can play up top (should Lukaku leave)…

I can see the Baby Faced Assassin either signing someone younger than Aubameyang or promoting from within. This one just feels a little far away from the blueprint that United are trying to follow.
