Edinson Cavani has made a blistering start to life at Old Trafford. Now it’s time for Manchester United to repay that faith.

El Matador has been an absolute revelation. The Uruguayan has only been at the club for a couple of months. Yet his impact is already being felt.

It was his two goals that’d win Manchester United the game against Southampton, with Edinson Cavani oozing class throughout his impeccable 45-minute cameo on the South coast.

Amongst the fans, it feels like common knowledge already that the 33-year-old is already the Red Devils’ best striker. Given the fact that Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford took the league by storm last term, that’s some high praise.

Cavani is yet to make a Premier League start. However, he’s already averaging a goal or assist every 32 minutes in what’s widely-known as the most competitive league in the world. That blistering form should guarantee his first league start this weekend, particularly with Rashford suffering with a niggling shoulder injury

After the best part of six months off, it took Cavani time to get up to speed. Credit also has to go to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for man-managing the situation perfectly. He didn’t throw El Matador into the fire too quickly, instead, the Baby Faced Assassin has timed it wonderfully-well. Now, United’s #7 is ready to show West Ham United what he can do during a complete 90 minutes.

Let’s relive *that* insane performance from Cavani at the weekend:

Just look at the movement, the timing, the hunger for both goals. Cavani is a natural, instinctive finisher, whose goal-poaching skills has developed over years of experience. It’s no fluke that he’s often in the right place at the right time. He’s someone who the younger United forwards can learn an awful lot from.

I don’t think anyone expected Cavani to make such an early, impressive impact. The fact that he’s hit the ground running definitely bodes well for the remainder of the season. Who knows, perhaps we’ve finally found someone to break the number 7 curse too!

What’s exciting is that United now sit five points off the Premier League summit with a game in hand. This young team is only going to get better, with the Red Devils having a real shot at challenging for a Premier League title this season. Make no mistake about it, Cavani is going to play an integral part this term, being that wise-old head in amongst a squad packed with youthful exubrance.

Credit has to go to the gaffer, too. Sanctioning this move on deadline day screamed of a panic buy. Right now, it’s looking like anything but. Cavani has hit the ground running and long may that continue!

An Edinson Cavani start against West Ham United is the least he deserves. Now, it’s down to El Matador to take that chance.
