The Brazilian playmaker has endured a torrid 14 months since securing his dream switch to the Nou Camp.
Coutinho has failed to establish himself as a regular member of Ernesto Valverde’s starting XI.
His future with Barcelona is repeatedly being called into question.
And the La Liga champions could ultimately flog the man they paid Liverpool a club-record £142m for in January 2018.
A return to the Premier League would be the most likely destination for the former Anfield hero.
While a move back to Liverpool is unexpected, other top sides in England are said to hold an interest.
Barcelona would seriously struggle to recoup the entire fee they spent on Coutinho, and with the summer transfer window fast approaching, this next month will prove key.
Coutinho’s uncertain future at the Nou Camp comes as:
“There is enough concern among Barcelona chiefs for talks to be held”
Coutinho has little time remaining to prove his worth to Barcelona, and the Champions League quarter-final tie with United will be his last chance.
After the two-legged tie, which will see the 26-year-old return to England when they play at Old Trafford, a new meeting has been planned between the club and the player’s representatives, according to SPORT.
There is enough concern among Barcelona chiefs for talks to be held.
The Catalan giants have four La Liga games to come too prior to the second leg with United.
Rivals Espanyol visit the Nou Camp after the international break on Saturday, March 30, while Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Huesca all await Coutinho soon.
Barcelona as a team have few concerns at present, given their 10-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.
But they won’t carry Coutinho if he acts as a passenger in the side going forward.
And if he fails to raise his game before the United tie, Barcelona could sell for as little as £86m this summer.
The club know they still have a player globally recognised as a superstar and who carries great value in the Premier League from his time with Liverpool.
SPORT add there are teams in England waiting for a decision at Barcelona over Coutinho’s availability this summer, as some are willing to enter a potential bidding war.
Who the clubs would be remains unclear, although reports have suggested this week that Coutinho would NOT be interested in joining Liverpool’s arch-rivals and Barcelona’s Champions League opponents United.
