Manchester United’s 2-2 draw at home to Southampton last night was an absolute sickener. The result meant the Red Devils remained in fifth place in the Premier League table. To add more salt to the wound, Luke Shaw rolled his ankle, while a further blow was dealt in the form of a Brandon Williams injury.
Head injuries always look nasty. Williams’ clash was no different, with blood pouring everywhere almost immediately. It meant that United had to finish the game with ten men but concern for the young left-back was the only thing on our minds.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t shed much light on the issue in his post-match comments, probably because he wasn’t really sure of the severity himself.
Now, though, we’ve been given an update from the man himself. Williams took to Instagram to send a message to the fans following the head injury, thanking the supporters for all their messages of concern.
I’d be surprised if Shaw makes the Palace game this Thursday and for Williams, it’s now a race against time.
Personally, I hope he isn’t risked. Head injuries and concussions aren’t to be messed with. At the very least, I’d hope he’s saved until the weekend for our FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
It’s just a shame because Williams is a young man with massive potential. This will make a difference to the way his breakthrough 2019/20 term finishes – I just hope we see him again before the season is concluded.
For now, all we can do is hope Williams is feeling better and sat at home recovering. At the end of the day, he’s a young boy with plenty of time to make a name for himself. I’d rather wait a few weeks and have a 100% fit and ready Williams over one who’s pushing himself through the pain barrier for the cause.
Get well soon, Brandon!
