For all their faults over the last half-decade or so, Manchester United have been absolutely spot on when it comes to picking their goalkeepers.
Credit where it’s due. David de Gea has been the best in the business for so long, while I’m hard-pressed to find a better back-up than Sergio Romero. Then you have Dean Henderson, whose stock is certainly on the rise.
The shot-stopper is now on his third season in a row on loan. In the last two full campaigns, Henderson has earned promotion with both Shrewsbury Town and Sheffield United. This term he’s back with the Blades – loving life in the Premier League.
Every single time you watch him, Henderson just seems to get better and better. He has supreme command of his penalty area, is solid in the kicking game, is a wonderful shot-stopper while being an overall leader.
With De Gea’s form being somewhat inconsistent over the last couple of years, you can bet your bottom dollar that United have a big decision to make.
Henderson is young and on the rise while, dare I say De Gea’s best years are behind him? Heck, I certainly wouldn’t want to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with that decision to make.
The fans are all saying the same thing, though – the 22-year-old is ready for first-team action with the Reds. Be it backing up De Gea or as the out-and-out starter, surely we can’t let Henderson leave on loan next season?
