Edinson Cavani led the line vs Istanbul Basaksehir last night, with Red Devils fans pleased with his contribution.

Manchester United got their revenge. A 4-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford last night was certainly deserved, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men took control of their Champions League group once again.

Again, it was Bruno Fernandes who received all the headlines. After all, he would score two quick-fire goals to send United on their way. However, to a man, everyone played their part last night; including Edinson Cavani.

After a handful of substitute appearances, the Uruguay international would finally make his first start. Oh boy did he take that opportunity with both hands.

Sure, Cavani didn’t score. Though if you watched the game last night, you’ll know that the 33-year-old simply oozes class.

I don’t think I’ve seen a United forward make so many threatening runs in a game for about five years, and that’s not exaggerating. Cavani was constantly trying to get in-behind and open the space for his teammates. It’s no surprise that the Reds found it far easier to break down their opponents because they had a proper striker up top causing all sorts of problems.

An outing like that has certainly been brewing. Game-on-game, Cavani has gradually improved and the signs were there last time out against West Brom. We’re now starting to see that Cavani isn’t just a mercenary in it for the money. Rather, he’s a high-level player who’ll make this team a better one.

As you’d imagine, United fans were thrilled with the contribution from their key forward and took to social media to express just how pleased they were.
