Chelsea make Philippe Coutinho transfer decision – star's Barcelona future in doubt

The Brazil international has failed to deliver at the Nou Camp since his big money move from Liverpool last January.

And the £142m man has been linked with a move away from the club in the summer transfer window as Barcelona look to raise funds for other transfer targets.

The Spanish champions are still hoping to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid and have also been heavily linked with Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt.

Despite Christian Pulisic’s impending arrival this summer, Chelsea want to try and fill the big void that will be left by Eden Hazard.

The Belgium international has finally agreed a move to Real Madrid after months of speculation and will depart after seven years at Stamford Bridge.

But the Blues are currently fighting a two-window transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA.

The club have appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after an initial appeal was rejected but are still awaiting a decision.

Any move for Coutinho would of course mean that the ban would have to be lifted altogether or frozen for the time being.

It is now being claimed though that Chelsea are resigned to the fact that any decision will not be through in time for them to complete a deal for the midfielder.

The Sun claim Chelsea sounded out Barcelona about a deal for Coutinho.

But according to Spanish publication Sport, a move to Paris Saint-Germain is more likely for Coutinho anyway because of the wages that they can offer.

It is thought that the 27-year-old’s reluctance to move to Ligue 1 has now disappeared and he would be open to a move.

Coutinho netted just 11 goals and five assists in his 54 appearances in his first full season at Barcelona.

And it seems that the club’s patience to hold onto the star is running thin already.

Coutinho is thought to have told friends a few weeks ago he would welcome an exit from Barcelona, with Liverpool and Manchester United also linked with a move.

United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League though is set to be their biggest roadblock should they want to pursue him.
