Confirmed Man Utd XI vs Chelsea – Mata starts against former team, Greenwood & Cavani on bench

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a pretty good record against Frank Lampard and he’ll be looking to continue that today. We’re just under an hour from kick-off and the confirmed Man Utd XI for the game vs Chelsea has now been named by the gaffer…

There were several questions for the manager to answer before this one. Would Harry Maguire be fit? Would Mason Greenwood be available? What about Edinson Cavani? And Donny van de Beek?

Well, all those questions have been answered. It’s pretty simple, really. There are a few changes to the bench, but Solskjaer has gone for the exact same team that beat Newcastle United 4-1 last weekend. You have to say, it’s probably deserved as al of them impressed last time out.

I am gutted not to see Alex Telles in the squad at all, mind. Hopefully, it’s just as he needs to rest up as opposed to the Brazilian having an injury. Anyway, let’s delve deeper into the team news

Confirmed Man Utd XI vs Chelsea in full:

David de Gea obviously starts. As excited as I am to see Dean Henderson get his chances, our Spanish number one is playing at an incredibly high level right now.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sublime in midweek and we’re going to need a similar level of performance from him here. Luke Shaw does keep his place in the XI, which is somewhat a surprise. Harry Maguire recovers from injury to take his place in the defence and captain the side. Victor Lindelof completes the back four.

Scott McTominay fends off competition from Nemanja Matic to play in that defensive-midfield role. Fred is also included, despite Donny van de Beek continuing to push hard for a start. Bruno Fernandes plays, obviously…

Marcus Rashford starts as the main striker in the absence of the suspended Anthony Martial. He’ll have Juan Mata on his right and Daniel James off the left-hand side.

New boy Edinson Cavani makes he bench here, as does Mason Greenwood and Paul Pogba. That’s a strong-looking substitutes bench if things aren’t working well for the Baby Faced Assassin…

COME ON LADS!
