Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur at the Hongkou Stadium on Shaghai in their second match of the International Champions Cup this summer. This will be United’s fourth pre-season match this summer, beating Perth Glory 2-0, Leeds United 4-0 and Inter Milan 1-0 so far. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to continue their winning run against Spurs.
United are also seeking to overturn a poor season last term by getting ready for the upcoming season, in which they will face Chelsea at Old Trafford on the opening weekend of the Premier League, in just over two weeks time. Solskjaer is also tasked with strengthening his squad this summer, so far with the addition of Daniel James from Swansea City and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace. Two weeks remain in the transfer window to add more players to the squad.
Wan-Bissaka, Smalling, Rojo, Young;
McTominay, A. Pereira, Pogba;
Greenwood, Martial, James
Romero, J. Pereira; Lindelof, Bailly, Dalot, Shaw, Tuanzebe; Mata, Lingard, Fred, Gomes, Matic, Garner; Rashford, Chong
Gazzaniga, Walker-Peters, Tanganga, Vertonghen, Georgiou, Winks, Sissoko, Ndombele, Dele, Parrott, Kane
United and Spurs have played each other 191 times competitively with United winning 91 times, drawing 48 times and losing 52 times. Last season, United fell to a 3-0 defeat against Spurs at Old Trafford in August 2018, winning 1-0 in the reverse fixture in the league in January 2019. In their last ten matches, United have won six and lost four. Beating Spurs will mean nothing in pre-season but will show if United has improved this summer.
