David De Gea to Real Madrid: I thought Man Utd star would move this summer – Shay Given

De Gea was on the brink of moving to the Bernabeu in 2015 but the transfer collapsed on deadline day due to a fax machine blunder.

The 26-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, remains a target for the Spanish giants.

But Real have kept faith with current No.1 Keylor Navas, so United look set for a season with limited speculation about De Gea’s future.

“I felt this summer he might go,” former keeper Given said on Sky Sports.

“They always sign a Galactico every summer.

“I’m still not sure about the goalkeeper.

“David De Gea would be the perfect replacement for him.

“To get a title challenge on, it’s vitally important that they keep David De Gea at the club.

“There’s not too many noises coming out of the David De Gea camp that he wants to move.”

De Gea kept a clean sheet in United’s opening-day win against last weekend.
