That is the opinion of Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.
Everton were held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Toffees dominated the play at Selhurst Park, but failed to capitalise on their wealth of possession or chances.
One man who stood out for the visitors was defensive-midfielder Gueye, who pulled the strings from his deep-lying role.
“The lad at Everton is 100 times better than him”
The Senegal international has been one of Everton’s best players this season.
In fact, so impressive have his performances been this term, he was the subject of interest from French champions PSG in January.
The Ligue 1 side had a £21.5m bid turned down, and were told they would have to fork out around £35m to lure him away from Goodison Park.
United, on the other hand, have failed to get the best out of Fred following his £52m move from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer.
Merson’s comparison of Gueye and Fred comes amid news that:
The Brazilian has failed to hold down a regular place under Jose Mourinho or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his debut season at Old Trafford.
And Merson feels Fred falls well short in comparison of Gueye, describing the United player’s performance in the 4-2 loss at Everton as “cringeworthy”.
“I look at their players and I don’t want to dig out Fred that he’s not good enough for Manchester United,” Merson told Soccer Saturday.
“The lad at Everton is 100 times better than him, Gueye’s 100 times better than him.
“£52 million [For Fred], he’s not like he was a free.
“I’m not a Man United fan, but I was embarrassed. It was cringeworthy [against Everton].”
