Former City boss: This is why Man United will beat Man City to the title
Manchester United Football Club have kicked off the season with a perfect two out of two so far, scoring eight goals and conceding none. Jose Mourinho has to be pleased, but he’ll understand that this is just the beginning and there is an awful lot of football left to be played.
With that in mind, the players must be feeling in buoyant mood following back-to-back thumpings of both West Ham United and Swansea City. The confidence will be flowing, and it couldn’t have started any better for the Old Trafford club.
Now former City boss Stuart Pearce has given his two-pence in regards to where he’ll think the Premier League title will end up. To my surprise, he’s tipped the red half of Manchester to be celebrating come May.
He was asked about his former employers, and whether they are good enough defensively to win the league.
“Are they going to be good enough defensively to win the league?” Pearce said on Sky Sports as per the Daily Express, when asked about Manchester City.
“That is the question from me for Manchester City. “
“Are the back four, or back three plus the goalkeeper going to be good enough to keep enough clean sheets to win them games? That’s the big question.”
“I think United are better suited to get over the line [for the title], keep clean sheets and score goals.”
The defence was City’s weak spot last season and Pep Guardiola has recognised that and made wholesale changes. Now, it’s just a matter of whether these guys can adapt to Premier League football and Guardiola’s pressing system.
If they manage to cope with the physicality of the English game, then this title race could go right down to the wire between both Manchester sides.
