Gary Neville: Man United need to sign a player in this key position this summer
Manchester United Football Club kicked off their Premier League campaign in stunning style, with Jose Mourinho’s men putting West Ham United to the sword. The game ended 4-0, and things literally couldn’t have gone any better.
However, after the game, Gary Neville gave his assessment. On the whole, the former Red Devils right-back was impressed with the club he used to play for.
Although, he did add that he feels the Old Trafford side are still short of one player; a left-winger. This is so true. We have an abundance of talent in that area of the field, but we don’t have that guy we can rely upon to perform every single week.
“I’d name a player similar to Arjen Robben – a wide player. [Marcus] Rashford did very well but is he a wide player? Not really,” he told Sky Sports, as per the Manchester Evening News.
“I’m talking about someone who can generally play left side. If you could add one world-class winger to add to the squad you could say it was a complete squad…they are covered everywhere, they have such strength.”
Like Neville says, Marcus Rashford was wonderful, as was Anthony Martial. They both need to improve on their consistency if they are to make the position in the team their own, though. That has to be the main concern, particularly when you factor in that Rashford is predominantly a striker.
Can we win the title without investing in a left-sided attacker, yes. We’d have a much better chance if we brought in a new player though. Who could that guy be? I’ve no idea, but I don’t think it’ll be Robben – purely due to his age.
