Manchester United fans were rightly excited when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sanctioned a move to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.
However, nobody expected the Portuguese to make such an incredible impact so early. Winning a Premier League Player of the Month award in your first month is pretty spectacular, to say the least.
Well today, the praise has been further heaped on United’s superstar 25-year-old, by Reds defender and Fernandes’ teammate, Diogo Dalot. The talented right-back went as far as claiming that the former Sporting man is ‘going to be a legend’.
‘He’s unbelievable, he can be better of course as well. He’s going to learn a lot from this club.’
‘I think he is a massive player to have in this team and he’s going to be a very good player for this club. He’s going to be (a legend), no doubt about that.’
‘He was the captain at Sporting, of course he’s an experienced player as well, 25 years old, he’s played in Italy, he played in Portugal as well. He knows what he is doing. It’s going to be very good for him.’
Now, this is certainly a bold claim, but would you bet against Bruno? I certainly wouldn’t. He’s a born winner. A leader of men. A world-class individual.
Legend isn’t a word to be taken lightly, though. It’ll take a monumental effort and trophies galore to make that happen. Living in the here and now, Fernandes has single-handedly changed United’s future. There’s no denying that.
I also love the bromance that he’s forming with Dalot. Word on the street is that the latter even takes packed-lunches in for his new teammate, which is a pretty nice way to make Fernandes feel right at home.
For now, let’s just enjoy the moment and live in the present. Fernandes is the standard, it’s up to those other lads in that dressing room to live up to that billing.
