How Man Utd could line-up with Harry Maguire and three other transfers

Manchester United are desperate to sign Maguire this summer after a prolonged transfer saga that has stretched back as far as last summer.

The Red Devils have long held the Englishman has a top target and that feeling was only amplified on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival.

The Norwegian has been keen to improve his defence after witnessing a shoddy season at the back.

It was the leakiest year at Old Trafford since 1978/79 after conceding 54 league goals, with the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly failing to put together a strong defence.

But Solskjaer has come in with the philosophy of young, British talents and the two signings already this summer fulfil that.

Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have joined for £15m and £50m respectively but it is not just the Premier League Solskjaer is looking at.

Bruno Fernandes of Sporting has also been strongly linked to bolster a midfield that has lost Ander Herrera.

The Portuguese star would be a much more attacking threat than the now-Paris St-Germain midfielder.

Fernandes netted 32 goals and laid on a further 18 assists for his team-mates last season in all competitions.

Keeping hold of Paul Pogba is now looking more and more likely as well and there are even reports that the Frenchman could be offered a new deal.

But Romelu Lukaku continues to edge closer to an exit, despite United rejecting Inter Milan’s latest offer.

The Belgian is desperate to leave after being told by the Old Trafford boss that he is no longer first-choice.

Solskjaer is basing his attacking trident on Marcus Rashford, placing a wealth of explosive talent around him.

With that in mind, here is how United could line-up next season with their new signings.

Predicted line-up: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; Matic, Pogba, Fernandes; Martial, James, Rashford.
