Manchester United Football Club somewhat moved away from what they’ve done best in recent years, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned back to developing young players and it’s working a treat.
Marcus Rashford is flourishing, as are Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood. However, a new academy graduate is emerging as a real star of the future this season; Brandon Williams.
The Harpurhey-born-defender has gone toe-to-toe with Luke Shaw for the starting role over the last few months, both of whom are pushing each other to that next level.
Well last night, Reds legend Gary Neville named Williams as a player who he ‘loves to bits’. Who better than arguably the best full-back this club has ever had to heap the praise on Williams?
‘He is giving his all you can see he loves playing for Man United.
‘He’ll do anything to win a game of football, he’ll do anything to win the ball. I love him.’
Williams plays with a grit, determination and hunger that this squad has been bereft of in recent years. He’ll go toe-to-toe with anyone and won’t shirk a fight.
That’s something that other squad members will look up to and think, ‘yeah, I can play with this kid for the next decade’.
Talent-wise, Williams has it all though he’s still young and a little bit raw. Yes, mistakes will be made, but you can bet he’ll learn from them and improve as a result.
It’s good that he has competition from Shaw. Both will be spurring each other on in order to win the starting job and suddenly, United have two quality options in a left-back position which has been tough to fill in recent years.
