We don’t mean to keep banging on about it, but Manchester United’s decision to move away from both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku in the summer has left the Red Devils mightily short up front.

It’s a problem that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seemingly trying to fix sooner rather than later. After missing out on Erling Haaland’s signature, last night, a new name was thrown into the ring; Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

In an exclusive from The Sun, it is being claimed that the in-form 22-year-old striker sits atop United’s summer hit list. Apparently, the Englishman was seen as a back-up plan to the aforementioned Haaland. Now, he’s the main plan.

The Sun adds that Calvert-Lewin would cost £50million, which is more than double (almost treble), the £18m that Borussia Dortmund ended up paying to acquire Haalad from RB Salzburg.

Calvert-Lewin has scored eight league goals this term, including three goals in two starts under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, as the young forward begins to find his feet.

I like Calvert-Lewin as a player. He’d certainly fit into this United counter-attacking system due to his pace, though again, I’d have concerns about his skillset when teams sit back and look to soak up pressure with eleven men behind the ball.

Personally, I prefer Calvert-Lewin’s Everton teammate Richarlison, although he’d likely cost considerably more than his English counterpart. Then again, United haven’t had much luck with Brazilians, have they…?
