The Stoke stopper enjoys a growing reputation in the game as David De Gea’s future continues to look undecided.
Real Madrid are always lurking in the background and they could pounce at any time.
Butland has been linked as a potential replacement.
And while he has refused to reveal his feelings about the switch he says it is just something he would have to get on with should the opportunity arise.
“It’s something you’ve got to deal with at the time”
He joined the BT Sport pundits in the studio following the Potters’ 1-0 win over Arsenal yesterday and was asked questions from viewers tweeting in.
One of the questions, read by Jake Humphrey, was: “How do you fancy replacing David de Gea if he was to leave Manchester United?”
Butland, laughing, responded: “Always (get asked that)!
“No, no (I don’t want to answer that on live TV).
“Like I said I’m really happy here and if that opportunity ever came round it’s something you’ve got to deal with at the time.
“I’m really happy, felt incredible after that win.
“Hopefully I can continue that here and who knows that the future holds.”
Stoke host Manchester United on September 9 and Butland has been impressed by what he has seen of Jose Mourinho’s side this season.
The Red Devils followed up their opening day 4-0 win against West Ham with the same result at Swansea yesterday.
“They’ve really produced and put together an incredible squad,” Butland added.
“We watched them earlier on today and by the time I left the car to get into the building they had scored another two.
“They’re quite a force to be reckoned with.”
