Manchester United have been given an injury boost, with Joel Matip still not back in training for Liverpool ahead of the game this weekend.
The 20-time Premier League champions head to Anfield sitting atop the table. Who’d have thought that a few weeks ago, eh?
This weekend’s game is arguably United’s most important since Sir Alex Ferguson left. And we head to Merseyside with a squad that’s full of confidence.
However, every little further lift helps. United have seemingly been handed another boost, with key Liverpool star, Joel Matip, running out of time to prove his fitness for the game this weekend. That’s according to journalist James Pearce.
The man from Cameroon wasn’t involved in Wednesday’s training session as he continues to work his way back from a groin problem – meaning Liverpool are looking pretty thin on the ground in a key area of the field.
Check out James Pearce’s tweet here:
Simply put, United have to take advantage of Jurgen Klopp’s negligence in the transfer market. They’ve chosen to leave themselves thin on the ground in the centre-half area, which is why there is genuine talk of Jordan Henderson playing back there.
This all means nothing if United don’t use this in their favour. It’s down to the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani to make it a tough night for what’s looking likely to be a makeshift Liverpool backline.
If there’s any chance of us going to Anfield and winning, this weekend is as good as any we’ve had recently. No silly mistakes, cut out the unforced errors and play to our capabilities. If we do that, there’s every chance we’re coming back home with all three points.
Now, it’s time for our players to get locked in. Do the preparation in the correct manner and reap the rewards. Bring on Sunday!
