Moussa Dembele is a name that Manchester United fans are growing in familiarity with. The Frenchman has been linked with a potential Reds switch over the last six months – the last story we covered came from ESPN toward’s October’s end…

With the January transfer window now open, you felt it was only a matter of time before rumours linking the Reds with Dembele would come to the fore again. However, the French club have beaten the media to the punch this time.

The report once again comes from ESPN, who claim that United have been dealt a blow as the reported transfer target Dembele has been deemed not for sale by Lyon. They’re so keen on keeping ahold of the 23-year-old striker that they’ve released a club statement:

“Lyon have moved to reaffirm their desire, just as in the summer of 2019, to keep Moussa Dembele,”club statement read. “Lyon have complete confidence in Moussa and count on him as we build a powerful team for the seasons to come.”

Dembele has scored ten times across all competitions for Lyon this term, while his stock across the game continues to rise. Aged just 23, there’s ample room for growth and perhaps after eighteen months in France, the player deems it time to move on to pastures new.

After starting his career at Fulham, before moving to Celtic, Dembele has scored goals wherever he has been. Why shouldn’t we believe that trend would continue should the talented striker move to Old Trafford?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as though Lyon are willing to lose a prized asset in the mid-season transfer window. Judging by the statement, you get the impression they aren’t keen on losing Dembele at all – in the not too distant future anyway…
