The pre-season tour for Manchester United is always an exciting time. It gives us supporters an opportunity to see new signings in action on their debuts, while also getting a glimpse into the future as our youngsters get ample chances too.
Perhaps United’s best prospect at the moment is Mason Greenwood. Although rough around the edges, the young man was the standout player on the final day of last season against Cardiff City.
The 17-year-old (yes, he’s only a baby!), put in an excellent performance against Perth Glory in the second half today, and he was mightily unlucky not to hit the back of the net.
His biggest selling point is the directness and energy in which he plays with, and as any followers of United’s U18s side will know, this boy loves to both score and assist.
As you’d imagine, the Red Devils fans were absolutely buzzing on social media, and rightly so as United have a gem on their hands.
There was a moment in which Greenwood ghosted past three Perth defenders like they weren’t there and it truly was a thing of beauty. He was unlucky to hit the post after some excellent teamwork, too. All his performance missing was the goal.
It was intriguing to see Greenwood play off the right-hand side, too. As we all know that has been a major problem area for the Red Devils over the last few years. Who knows, this mega-talented 17-year-old could be the man to solve that longstanding issue.
