Manchester United Football Club have been in desperate need to sign a centre-half for at least a few seasons.
Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have been signed, although whether both are good enough remains to be seen.
The name the fans are constantly clamouring to see wearing United red is Toby Alderweireld. That’s largely due to a £25million release clause in the Belgium international’s Tottenham Hotspur contract.
Well according to The Sun, United have just 48 hours to activate said release clause in the 30-year-old’s contract as the release clause is ticking down quickly…
There’s no doubt that Alderweireld would be a considerable upgrade on what United have in a key area of the field. He’s tough in the tackle, a real on-field leader and he does have Premier League experience.
However, I have my doubts about whether United’s interest in him was all that serious. Surely if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted him enough the deal would have already been done?
For me, the Harry Maguire move makes more sense purely from a longevity standpoint. Plus he also meets the English players quota which is another positive.
With time running out on Alderweireld’s contract, you do get the feeling that he’ll be at Tottenham Hotspur for at least the next twelve months…
