After a relatively quiet week in terms of Manchester United transfer news, Ander Herrera is scooping all the headlines.
The Basque-born midfielder is out of contract this summer and rumours surrounding a potential free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain are swirling.
A fresh update comes from Paris United, translated by the brilliant Sport Witness. They’re now going as far as suggesting that the Athletic Club academy product has reached an agreement with the Ligue 1 champions – although talks will keep going.
The fact that Herrera’s wife is of French origin makes me think there’s truth to this story. Plus, why wouldn’t the player want to go to Paris? A beautiful city and lifestyle, while earning probably more money than he’d be on here. Then you have to factor in the multiple trophies that he’d win season-in-season-out.
It’d be a huge shame if United were to lose Herrera, particularly on a free transfer. The fans love him, he adores them equally, but at the end of the day, he has to think about what’s best for him and his family.
At this point, as a United fan, you have to be worried. The club seem to have no problem tying the middle-of-the-pack, squad players to new, expensive contracts, but the best members of the team seem unwilling to commit. Can you really blame them?
