Facundo Pellistri is probably the most little-known signing made by Manchester United this summer, though he seems up for it after being given his number 28 jersey at Old Trafford.
Coming from Uruguay, much like Edinson Cavani, Pellestri, aged just eighteen, has already arrived in Manchester.
Now, the United summer signing has taken to Twitter to send a passionate message to the fans, just a couple of days after being handed the number 28 jersey at the Theatre of Dreams.
Pellestri explained that he’s already in Manchester, looking forward to join the team and ready for this new challenge to begin. I, for one, cannot wait to see how he gets on.
The young boy certainly seems up for the challenge, that’s for sure. It’ll also be helpful having Cavani who he can call upon, while I don’t doubt Diego Forlan would be more than willing to answer the phone if Pellestri wanted to ask some questions about life at United and Manchester in general.
The question is, where will Pellestri fit in?
At this point, I’m not sure. However, the fact that Facundo Pellestri has been handed the number 28 jersey could indicate he’ll come in and join the first-team immediately.
The fact that United have absolutely zero depth in wide areas certainly plays into his hands. And although Amad Traore probably joins the club as the better prospect, he won’t arrive until January…
At the very earliest, you’d imagine he’ll need at least a month or so to settle into his new surroundings. Maybe Pellestri is someone who can be utilised as a cup competition player as he finds his feet and continues to develop.
You do get the impression he is someone United are very excited about, though, and I cannot wait to see him play.
Welcome to Manchester, Facundo!
