Manchester United made a great move for Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer window, as the Red Devils finally signed a midfielder following the departures of both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini during the twelve months prior.
However, United are still one quality midfielder light. Well today, a familiar name has been thrown back into the ring by Italian media…
The story comes from Il Messaggero’s Thursday print edition, translated brilliantly via Sport Witness. They’re claiming that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s recent performances have meant previously interested parties are now keen once again.
This time, they write that United are ‘ready to take things seriously’ in regards to the 25-year-old this coming summer. However, Milinkovic-Savic’s quality displays of late have meant the asking price has been upped to £111m (€120m).
Now I can’t lie to you, I became rather bored with all the Milinkovic-Savic links over the summer. They were pretty relentless. However, this is a name we haven’t written about since July of last year.
I’d be lying to you if I claimed to have watched Milinkovic-Savic play week-in-week-out this season, I haven’t. However, there’s a reason why he’s still at SS Lazio and a giant hasn’t pulled the trigger on him just yet…
Sure, he’s expensive, but in this day and age if someone truly believes he’s good enough, a deal would have been done already. This tells me that several suitors (including United) aren’t completely sold.
From what I have seen of Milinkovic-Savic, I’m not really sold myself. Honestly, I think this money could be spet miles better elsewhere. I know they’re different types of players but I’d much prefer to see that cash used to acquire Jack Grealish or James Maddison.
