Manchester United’s transfer window is going through a bit of a lull at the moment, with no signings made since Aaron Wan-Bissaka was added earlier on in the month…
Well perhaps things could be happening behind the scenes, as according to the Daily Mail, Edward Woodward has missed his first pre-season tour in six years in a bid to finalise transfers before the August deadline.
Apparently, Woodward was expected to join up with the tour in Singapore, but that hasn’t happened.
What I found most interesting came in the byline, as the Mail state that United ‘remain hopeful’ of pushing deals through for both Harry Maguire and Sean Longstaff before the window slams shut – both would be key additions in two areas we’re desperate for reinforcements.
United desperately need a new centre-back. Maguire fits the bill excellently and there’s no doubt that he’d have a similar effect to when Virgil van Dijk moved to Liverpool.
Midfield is another serious need. Whether Longstaff is the perfect player remains to be seen, but he does fit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s mould of signing young, English players.
My opinion is that the pair would cost just over a combined £100million, but the impacts they could have would far outweigh those transfer fees.
Hopefully, Woodward can get the deals done before the big kick-off next month…
