Manchester United’s transfer window starting with a quick one-two punch of signings. Deals for Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were confirmed, while the Red Devils also managed to tie Marcus Rashford (and others) down to a new contract.
One rumour that will just not go away is a proposed United move for Harry Maguire. It seems as though we’re getting an update on the saga almost daily now. To me, it does feel a case of when rather than if this transfer will go through.
Well, it seems as though Mike Keegan from the Daily Mail has a similar feeling. He has admitted that he’d be ‘very surprised’ if the deal doesn’t happen before the end of the window. While also adding that United are still in talks to sign the 26-year-old nicknamed ‘Slabhead’.
I seriously do believe this would be the signing of the summer should United pull it off. Maguire is amongst the best centre-backs in the country, and the Old Trafford faithful have been putting up with some bang-average defenders over the last few years.
In terms of fee, it does look as though the Reds are going to have to pay a world-record amount to tempt Leicester City into selling, but if any club can pay it then United can.
Not only would Maguire instantly be our best defender, he’d also bring some on-field leadership to the table which cannot be understated.
