After losing Marouane Fellaini in January and Ander Herrera over the summer, Manchester United are looking rather short in midfield.
Thankfully, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly has a Bruno Fernandes-shaped plan – and today, United have been given encouragement in their chase of the mega-talented 24-year-old.
They say that a move to Old Trafford ‘appeals’ to Fernandes, before adding that United can now ‘advance’ to acquire his signature…
Fernandes won’t come cheap and the fee that I’ve seen come up most often is somewhere around the £70million mark. Although if United are more than willing to splash £53million on Fred, I’m sure the Reds could dig deep into their pockets if Solskjaer deems this deal a game-changer.
In terms of stats, Fernandes tore up the Portuguese league last season, scoring 20 goals and tacking on 13 assists in 33 games. In all competitions, his tally stands at a mightily impressive 32 goals and 18 assists. That’s just insane.
Obviously the step up to the Premier League would be a massive challenge. He’d need time to adapt into new surroundings, but I’d argue that Fernandes would walk straight into the starting line-up from day one as it’s the area where United are probably lightest at the moment.
Hopefully, there’s some truth to this report and over the coming weeks I’d like to think that United will try and make their move to sign Fernandes.
