For Manchester United, this summer is huge. The club must learn from the failings of last time out – which eventually contributed to Jose Mourinho losing his job.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing wonderful things at present, but he needs help. This squad isn’t good enough to win multiple major honours, signings simply have to be made.
Alongside that, players will have to leave. Amongst those is Antonio Valencia, who, according to his father, is on his way out of Old Trafford when this season ends.
“He definitely will not continue in Manchester. He wants to change the air and the club is not going to renew him either. Like everything in life, everything has its end.” Luis Valencia told El Universal, translated by Sport Witness.
Antonio’s dad would go on to name clubs interested, including Arsenal, West Ham United, Inter Milan and others.
At this point, after barely featuring for United this season, it does seem as though letting him leave is the best option.
Valencia is at that stage in his career where he wants to be playing, while United probably want his wages off the books to clear space for others.
That’s not to say the man from Ecuador hasn’t been a great servant for this club. To spend such an amount of time at United certainly says otherwise, and this is a player who has won practically everything that English football has to offer while at the Theatre of Dreams.
Right now, though, it seems the time is right to let him move elsewhere.
