Manchester United Football Club still find themselves with a Paul Pogba problem on their hands.
The midfielder is obviously super-talented, though his long-term future remains unclear. Today, a report from Diario Madridista, translated by the Daily Express, believes that United have identified their replacement…
Apparently, United have added gifted 21-year-old midfielder, Federico Valverde, to their list of transfer targets as they prepare for life without Pogba.
The Frenchman is expected to force his way out of Old Trafford this summer, with Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, locked in battle with the Reds. Juventus and Real Madrid are the two likeliest destinations right now.
If they lose Pogba, the ever-improving Valverde has been earmarked as a potential signing. However, luring him from Real Madrid will not be easy – particularly as the Uruguyan has forced his way into their starting line-up on a regular basis.
According to the report, Valverde also has a huge £460m release clause. Now it’s obvious nobody is going to pay that much, though it does show how highly they value their asset.
Perhaps if Madrid were the eventual winners of Pogba’s signature, some sort of cash-plus-player swap deal could be worked out? That seems like the best move for all involved, particularly if United are so high on Valverde.
