DONE DEAL – Newcastle sign Joelinton, two more may come

Newcastle have smashed their transfer record to land Brazilian striker Joelinton for £35m from German club Hoffenheim.

The 22-year-old South American becomes Steve Bruce’s first signing since becoming Toon boss with the prospect of at least another two arrivals this week.

The Geordies remain keen on Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin and could re-sign Rangers right back James Tavernier, who was on Tyneside as a youngster.

With Manchester United still tracking Sean Longstaff, Bruce would also like to bring in a midfielder though the need would be less urgent if he can persuade Isaac Hayden to commit his future to the club.

Joelinton, who has penned a whopping six-year contract at St James’ Park to tie him down until 2025, is due to make his debut in Saturday’s friendly at Preston.

Hudson-Odoi stays at Chelsea

Callum Hudson-Odoi has agreed a new five-year deal at Chelsea.

The 18-year-old winger was the subject of great interest from Bayern Munich last season.

But the Blues held firm as they refused to sell their academy star, despite receiving a £35m offer.

He is now set to pen a new contract before the start of the new season having agreed terms on a £100,000-a-week deal running until 2024.

Frank Lampard has held positive talks with him, according to BBC Sport, and a deal is now in place.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Man Utd identify Maguire back-up

Manchester United have identified their alternative should a deal for Harry Maguire not come to fruition.

Leicester are holding out for close to £80m for the 26-year-old who was on United’s radar 12 months ago.

And in the event that Maguire to Old Trafford doesn’t occur the club will opt to pursue Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, reports the Daily Mail.

Ceballos signing within hours?

Dani Ceballos will become an Arsenal player in the ‘next few hours’.

Ceballos remains on holiday until July 29 after his hectic summer playing for Spain’s U21 side.

But upon his return, he will link up with Arsenal and not Real Madrid, claims Spanish outlet AS.

It is reported that Ceballos could travel to London on Tuesday to undergo a medical and sign his new contract.

He will then have his photo taken with the famous Arsenal shirt, no doubt sending fans into raptures on social media.

The 22-year-old will join on a one-year deal before returning to Real Madrid where Zinedine Zidane expects him to fight for a place in the first team.

Woodward pushing Maguire deal?

Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is remaining in the UK to push through a deal for Harry Maguire.

The Leicester defender remains Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice centre-half target.

A deal for Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff is also being sought.

Despite the tough stance Leicester have taken over Maguire and his £90m price-tag, United are refusing to walk away from the signing.

Two bids have been rejected to date, with the latest one worth £70m, but Woodward is pulling out all the stops while Solskjaer and his squad prepare for the new season.

The London Evening Standard say Woodward is hoping to reach a breakthrough imminently with less than three weeks until the transfer window shuts.

Fernandes makes UK admission

Manchester United transfer target Bruno Fernandes has spoken out about a potential move.

The £90m-rated 24-year-old admitted it was not his decision to make regarding a transfer – and hinted that a move to England might not materialise in the coming weeks.

“The president decides that, not me,” Fernandes said when asked about his future. “I don’t care about the market, I’ve talked about this many times.

“The only thing I can do now is that I need to catch the plane so I don’t miss it. Will this be the last match for Sporting? I don’t know, it’s the coach who decides.

“I told you I liked to play in England, but that’s not what interests me. It may be when the club decides.”

Nicolas Pepe

Pepe future ‘almost done’

Liverpool and Manchester United fans are being made to sweat by Lille chief Gerard Lopez after his latest admission that Nicolas Pepe’s future is close to being sorted.

There have been some big numbers quoted over a potential transfer, as high as £80m – ruling out Arsenal, despite their interest.

Discussing Pepe, Lopez told La Voix du Nord: “In terms of departures and arrivals, if a player leaves, we will go and get what we need.

“For Nico, it is almost done and he could have left last summer.

“It is true that there are big offers and big clubs in for him, so I think [he will leave]. Aside from that, you never know in football.”
