The winger blew hot and cold last season but ended the campaign with 12 goals in all competitions – his second best season at Old Trafford in terms of output.
Martial was just one of a host of stars slammed by Ince ahead of the upcoming season.
The ‘Guvnor’ also laid into forwards Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Alexis Sanchez for underperforming.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent £55m to recruit young right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace earlier this summer.
But Ince thinks Manchester United need to also address their lack of quality in attack if they hope to break back into the top-four places.
“You’ve got Marcus Rashford who scored 11 goals last year and gets a new contract,” he told BBC Radio 5 live.
“Jesse Lingard was diabolical last year, he really, really was.
“There’s Alexis Sanchez. They got nothing out of Sanchez whatsoever.
“So as much as we’re talking about Chris Smalling and Harry Maguire, surely we’ve got to be looking at who’s going to be playing up top.
“We need to be looking at that because attacking-wise they’re not great.”
When Ince had the name of Martial suggested to him, he blasted the winger for his inconsistent displays.
“Martial? He’s a fizzy drink,” the former England international replied.
“He pops now and then. One moment he’s great, one moment he’s not.”
Solskjaer has pledged to give his young players plenty of opportunities to showcase their potential next season.
The Norwegian instructed the club to spend £17m on young winger Daniel James, who arrived from Swansea.
The club have high hopes for the winger, who has earned comparisons with Red Devils legend Ryan Giggs.
