Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is plotting a summer spending spree in order to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.
Despite rejuvenating the club after replacing Jose Mourinho in December, the Norwegian could only guide United to a sixth-place finish.
Solskjaer may find it difficult to attract top quality talent without Champions League football.
And he is targeting younger players that can grow and develop, rather than continuing the trend of big-name marquee signings.
Youngsters Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Declan Rice and Dan James have all been suggested as potential incomings.
And according to The Sun, Dembele is another name interesting Solskjaer.
The 22-year-old quit Celtic for Lyon last year and has enjoyed a prolific campaign in France, scoring 20 goals in all competitions.
United want the £40m-rated Frenchman to provide competition up front for Marcus Rashford, who has surpassed Romelu Lukaku as first-choice striker.
“Dembele is another name interesting Solskjaer.”
Lukaku has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford and his agent has revealed the Belgian is considering his options.
And The Sun claim Solskjaer wants Dembele to replace him if he leaves.
Juventus are among the clubs believed to be considering a move for Lukaku.
Despite the ambition to move away from marquee signings, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed United are still hopeful of a deal for Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho.
And the Brazilian isn’t the only superstar on their radar.
“#ManchesterUnited insist to sign Jadon #Sancho,” Schira tweeted.
“Yesterday new contacts between Borussia Dortmund.
“#RedDevils are also interested in Philippe #Coutinho (with the arrival of Griezmann he can leave from Barcellona) and Youri #Tielemans.”
