Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals extent of Luke Shaw injury after Perth Glory win

United got their pre-season off to a winning start thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and James Garner.

Both goals came in the second half as £300,000-a-week forward Rashford pounced on some lacklustre defending to open the scoring, before 18-year-old midfielder Garner doubled the lead with a strike from 25 yards out.

Solskjaer’s side never looked in any danger against an albeit much weaker opposition.

But there was a moment of panic for the Norwegian in the dying moments of the game when he was forced to take off left-back Shaw.

The England international came on as part of the fresh XI for the second half.

But his match was ended five minutes from time, with Paul Pogba forced to see out the full 45, despite only linking up with his team-mates on Monday.

Shaw headed straight down the tunnel, reportedly complaining about his hamstring to Solskjaer.

But the Red Devils boss played down any concerns that his player had picked up a serious injury, admitting he would be giving him a few days off to cover.

“We’ll have to assess him, and probably rest him for a few days”

When asked if took Shaw off as a precaution, Solskjaer said: “Yeah, he was a bit tired.

“We’ve been working hard, and he felt some tightness there.

“We’ll have to assess him, and probably rest him for a few days.

“To be fair [Pogba]’s not trained as much as the other lads and we were going to put Jimmy on but then when Luke signalled then Paul played on.”

Both new signings Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were in action, along with a number of academy players.

United take on Leeds in their next friendly on Wednesday, also at Peth’s Optus Stadium.
