Solskjaer, who scored over 120 goals in 11 seasons at Old Trafford, will hope to continue his winning run as caretaker manager.
The Norwegian scored some big goals in the FA Cup, bagging a late winner against Liverpool in the third round of the 1998/99 tournament.
United, holders of the most Premier League titles, share a long-standing rivalry with the Reds, who have won more Champions League honours than any other English team.
But Solskjaer believes it was the rivalry with Arsenal that was more memorable, snubbing Liverpool.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, he said: “It’s fantastic.
“That’s the one fierce rivalry in all my years.
“When I played, it was always between the two of us. They were the closest rivals.

“They win the double, we win the treble, they win the next year.”
The Gunners have the most FA Cup titles with 13 goals.
And the Norwegian reflected fondly on United’s encounters with these rivals.
“We had a great team but they had a very good team,” Solskjaer continued.
“They had David Seaman, who I think I scored against once, just once.
“They were just great games and you’d look forward to them.
“I met them a couple times in the FA Cup. I think I’ve won two semi-finals against them but lost 2-0 at home once.
“There were some tackles flying in between the two teams, so fantastic games.
This comes as the United boss could be in line for a permanent position at the club.
