That is the view of former Red Devils defender Phil Neville, who says that they should also be signing a central defender.
United have been way off the pace in the Premier League once again this season and are struggling to claim a top four spot.
It could have been a lot worse though had Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not steadied the ship at Old Trafford after Jose Mourinho was sacked in mid-December.
Since then, Manchester United have lost just once – to Arsenal – and have made it through to the Champions League quarter-final.
But they are still lacking in several positions on the pitch with the defence still a major problem.
The club have been linked with moves for the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Kalidou Koulibaly to help bolster them at the back.
But while Neville agrees that is a key area that needs strengthening, he has also urged his former team to prioritise the right wing spot.
“If you’re saying a No 1 position to fill I think right side of midfield,” Neville said on Premier League today.
Neville’s comments came after:
“Centre-back is a priority, so is right wing”
“That’s the first choice.
“If you think about four signings, centre-back is a priority, so is right wing and then which other two positions are you thinking of?
“Right-back maybe and in centre midfield. He might think he needs two central midfield players.
“He might think he needs a centre forward.”
United have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho in recent weeks.
The teenager has impressed in the Bundesliga and has already made his England debut.
However, Dortmund will demand around £100m for the 18-year-old this summer and the Red Devils may not be willing to fork out that much money.
There is no doubt though that Sancho is going to be a superstar in years to come.
And United would love nothing more than to get one over on rivals Manchester City, who let Sancho leave for free.
