Man Utd boss Solskjaer backed to offload Lukaku and Matic for surprise Chelsea star

United are fighting for a spot in the top four of the Premier League along with Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Under Jose Mourinho, their chances look dead and buried but Solskjaer’s arrival sparked new hope in the squad.

A phenomenal run in the league that saw just one defeat in 17 has put them back into the reckoning.

And the Red Devils made Solskjaer permanent boss as a result – but even he has limits.

A rocky patch of form that included four defeats in five was halted against West Ham but it took two Paul Pogba penalties to down the Hammers.

And the Norwegian boss is expected to be bankrolled in the summer, with Ed Woodward keen to splash the cash.

A number of top targets have been mooted such as Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kalidou Koulibaly.

But one man that has been suggested is Chelsea star Kante – who would solve all of United’s midfield problems.

That is the opinion of former Old Trafford striker Lee Sharpe – who also believes Solskjaer should do away with Lukaku and Matic.

He told talkSPORT: “They have to go out and buy ready-made world-class players. They’ve got a few young players who are coming through, (Scott) McTominay looks really good.

“There are a few young players in the team so they need ready-made, experienced, world-class players to put them back on that sort of level and stage.

“I’m not sure it’s really worked out for Lukaku, a world-class centre-forward would be great.

“Defensively they look a little bit uncertain so maybe a centre-half.

“If I was at United, I’d probably look at swapping Matic, he’s been brilliant but he’s probably lost a yard.

“I’d go out and spend some money and get Kante because they don’t seem to fancy him at Chelsea.”
