Man Utd confident they can convince talented 20yo to stay despite winding down contract & heavy interest: report

Back on February 11th, we covered a story from FCInterNews in which it was claimed that Tahith Chong had apparently decided not to renew his Manchester United contract.

To us here at Old Trafford Faithful, it felt rather likely that the Dutchman would leave United on a free transfer. Apparently, the situation has changed…

According to The Sun, United are ‘confident’ that they can convince the talented 20-year-old to stay despite his winding down contract coupled with heavy interest.

Chong’s deal expires this summer, meaning he’s currently free to talk to overseas clubs about signing on a pre-contract. However, United now believe he’ll sign a long-term deal at the Theatre of Dreams.

The fluffy-haired Dutchman has made ten appearances for the Red Devils this term, though if I’m being honest, he has largely underwhelmed.

It wasn’t that long ago when it felt like a move to Inter Milan on a free was inevitable, though obviously, something has changed. Be it United are now offering the winger a bigger contract, or possibly guaranteeing more playing time, who knows?

Personally, though, my stance hasn’t changed. United shouldn’t bow down to anyone and credit where it’s due, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is changing that mindset.

If Chong wants to be here, fine, give him a new deal but don’t overpay. If his heart isn’t in it, then let him walk…
