Man Utd could make forgotten 30-yr-old available for January transfer, contract expires next summer: report

Marcos Rojo has turned into the forgotten man at Manchester United, though a January transfer may well be on the cards…

According to The Sun, United could make the forgotten 30-year-old available for a mid-season move, after inquiries about his availability over the summer.

Rojo’s contract actually expires next summer, meaning he’d be free to walk away from Old Trafford, while having the option of signing a pre-contract for an overseas club as early as January.

However, it looks as though he may well be staying in the Premier League at the season’s midway point, with Sheffield United interested in Rojo as they look to sign a defender.

At this point, he’s still a Reds player who is available for selection. Don’t forget that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer actually included the Argentine in his Champions League squad. However, he’ll likely struggle for playing time across all competitions – barring a major injury crisis…

The common theme during Rojo’s United career has been a keenness to move away from the former Sporting Lisbon defender. However, as of yet, those attempts have been unsuccessful.

So what now for Rojo?

You get the impression that Rojo, like his countryman Sergio Romero, just wants to play football. United have probably demanded at least some sort of transfer fee to let him leave, which is why he’s still here, clogging up the wage-books…

In January, he’ll move away in some capacity, be it on loan or permanently. United aren’t particularly well-stocked in the centre-back department, but Rojo doesn’t feel like a part of the long-term thinking. At all…

Hopefully, he can find a club. Sheffield United would definitely present an excellent opportunity for him. He actually suits their three centre-back system really well.

You do feel his time at Old Trafford is done, though. To be brutally honest, I’d be surprised if he plays for United again.
