The two Premier League sides played out a pre-season match in Shanghai but it was anything but a friendly.
Anthony Martial and Angel Gomes both grabbed the goals as Manchester United ran out 2-1 winners over Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
But one talking point during the first half had United fans raging.
On 25 minutes, United new boy James was seen chasing the ball towards the corner flag.
Sissoko was in hot pursuit of the Welshman and in attempting to get the ball he shoulder barged the United midfielder off the ball.
James hit the deck and as Sissoko dispossessed the ball from his opponent his left foot stamps down on James’ arm and stomach.
Sissoko escaped a card but was not forgiven by the United faithful on social media.
“That was disgusting by Sissoko,” said one fan.
“Why are Spurs playing so dirty for? Sissoko stamp and Alli trying to wipe every one of our players off their feet. Looks quite pathetic in pre-season,” added another.
“Sissoko stamped on him there!!!! What are these Tottenham players even doing,” said a third.
“Sissoko deserves a red and suspension,” said one supporter.
“Don’t care if it’s preseason, totally uncalled for. Just as bad as what happened to the Liverpool kid. Intentionally stomping on a player after bashing him in the back has no place in the game.
“What is wrong with Spurs? So so dirty. Sissoko would be given a straight red for that in the PL with VAR active. He stomped on James.”
Sissoko went onto receive a yellow card before the break following a late challenge on Mason Greenwood.
