Godin has been at rock at the back for Atletico since 2010 but he could be off the San Siro soon with his contract up in the summer.
Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed the Uruguayan is wanted by the Serie A side.
“There are champions who present themselves, that we don’t want to let get away, and Godin is one of them,” he said.
“We are ready to welcome such profiles and I want to underline that Godin will be a free agent in June.”

Skriniar has been at Inter since a 2017 switch from Sampdoria.
The 23-year-old centre-back is a full Slovakia international, and has impressed United with his displays for the Milanese club.
United are just three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea after a run of sixth consecutive wins under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
And Nemanja Matic is determined to overtake his former club and Arsenal in the Premier League standings.
“The teams in front of us have quality, they will also try to play in the Champions League next season,” he said.
“But I’m sure that we have enough qualities to compete with them.
“We will give our best and we will try to make our supporters happy.”
Manchester United are next in action on Friday when they travel to Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth-round (7.55pm).
