Manchester United Football Club made a couple of big defensive splashes last summer, acquiring both Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in mega-money deals.
Well, it seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still intent from building from the back and adding even more quality in that area of the field.
One name linked with an Old Trafford switch recently is Kalidou Koulibaly.
Well, the Senegalese is back in the headlines again today, with the story coming from Le Parisien in France.
Apparently, United have been boosted in their pursuit of the 28-year-old, as Paris Saint-Germain have pulled out of the race due to Napoli’s £63m (€70m) asking price…
In the grand scheme of things, £63m doesn’t seem like an outrageous fee, but given everything that’s going on in the world right now, buying clubs are having second thoughts about spending big money.
United are in a fortunate position in that regard. We’re talking about the richest club in the most lucrative league in world football. Although this will hurt The Glazers’ wallets, they’ll still have more than enough money to spend big again this summer – should they so choose of course…
Koulibaly would be an outrageously good partner for Maguire, though I do worry if this money is still better spent elsewhere. Three signings seems to be the norm for United over a summer and I look at holes on the right-wing, central midfield and up-top as more pressing needs.
